Data set provides time-series data on state- and county-level estimates of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participation and benefit levels, combined with area estimates of total population and the number of persons in poverty. All data, except program benefit amounts, are for a selected point in time each year; program benefit levels are total benefits issued over the course of a calendar year. The most current data can be accessed on the SNAP web site

Time-series data are available for program participation counts since 1997 (and for 1989, 1993, and 1995). Estimates of program benefits are available since 1969; some county-level benefits data are imputed. Estimates of population counts and persons in poverty are available for selected years. Selected variables in the Excel file are used to create maps at the State and county level.

The SNAP Policy Database provides information on State policy options in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Includes information on State-level SNAP policies relating to eligibility criteria, recertification and reporting requirements, benefit issuance methods, availability of online applications, use of biometric technology (such as finger-printing), and coordination with other low-income assistance programs. Data are provided for all 50 States and the District of Columbia for each month from January 1998 through December 2016.

The University of Kentucky Center for Poverty Research National Welfare Data (1980-2021) includes data.
