  • OSIRIS
    • Search for company by name or ticker symbol
    • Select the company from the results list
    • on right-hand menu, hover over Financial Data and select Global Detailed Format
    • scroll to the Income Statement and look for Research and Development Expenses
  • Compustat
    • Choose Fundamentals Annual
    • The data element is Income Statement Items: XRD - Research and Development Expense
  • WRDS also has Research Quotient.  Uses Compustat data. Research Quotient = percentage increase in revenue from a 1% increase in R&D. RQ is the output elasticity of R&D. RQ offers a universal, uniform, and reliable measure of a firm's R&D productivity. Covers 1972 to 2021.
